1. Terms of use

AnimaliaHotels is a free personal project: an information directory of boarding facilities and other establishments for companion animals. You can read listings, search for establishments and submit comments subject to moderation. Access does not require an account.

Bookings, prices, payments and accommodation conditions are agreed directly with each establishment. AnimaliaHotels does not collect booking payments or provide accommodation services. Check availability, facilities, licences and conditions with the establishment before booking.

Listings contain information from establishment websites, other public sources and contributions we receive. Details can become outdated; maps and locations are indicative. You can report errors, closures, improperly published personal information or image-related requests using the contact details below.

Comments and content

Submit relevant information and your own experiences only. Advertising, promotional links, automated messages, impersonation, threats and unlawful content are prohibited. Avoid including phone numbers, addresses or other personal information about yourself or others in your comment.

New comments are reviewed before publication. We may reject or delete spam, duplicates and content that breaches these terms. If approved, your chosen name and text will be public and may appear in search engines. Opinions belong to their authors; publication does not certify that the experience or establishment has been verified. You can request correction or removal of your comment.

By submitting a comment, you authorise its publication on the relevant listing. You retain your rights to your text. Photographs, trademarks and other content belong to their respective owners; inclusion in the directory does not imply a commercial partnership.

Use the site lawfully, respect animal welfare and do not interfere with its operation or bypass its protections. Linked websites and establishments have their own terms. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under applicable law.

2. Privacy

Data and purposes

• Comments: we receive your chosen name, text and publication/privacy acknowledgement. We store the date, language and moderation decision. No email address is required to comment. We rely on your consent to publish your name and comment; you can withdraw it by contacting us.
• Ratings: we store the star score, date and a pseudonymised browser identifier to prevent repeat votes. Scores contribute to the public average without showing the visitor’s identity.
• Interest in calling: we count the first opening of the phone popup during each listing visit. The record contains the hotel, server date and time, and a random event key to prevent duplicates. It contains no IP address, cookies, browser information or visitor identifier. This counter uses no cookies and sends no events to Google Analytics.
• Security: we use technical data, spam checks and pseudonymised identifiers to limit abusive submissions. Our basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the site and its visitors. Server logs may include your IP address, date, URL and browser details. The IP address is not stored in a new comment's record; a protected identifier is used to enforce submission limits.
• Contact: if you write to us, we process the information in your message to respond, correct information or handle your rights, according to the reason for your request and applicable obligations.
• Directory and older comments: we retain public establishment information and earlier comments. If these contain personal data, you can ask us to review, correct or remove it.

External services

We use the OpenAI API to classify new comments automatically as spam or not spam before publication. We send the comment text, the establishment's name, accepted animals and recorded town, area and country, together with the comment's language; we do not add the author's chosen name, IP address, cookies or connection identifiers. The text itself may contain personal information if you include it. The result automatically approves or rejects the comment and can be mistaken; a relevant negative review is not spam simply because it is negative. We store the decision, model, rules version, timestamps and processing state. You can request correction or removal using this page's contact details.

We request that OpenAI not store the response for later retrieval. This does not remove security logs or other retention that may apply to our account. See the OpenAI API data controls. If the service fails, the comment remains unpublished, is retried automatically and may be rejected if failures persist.

We use hosting and maintenance providers to operate the site. Google reCAPTCHA analyses technical browser signals when you interact with comment or rating forms to prevent fraud and spam; its score can prevent a submission, but never publishes a comment automatically. Google processes reCAPTCHA data to provide this security service. We do not send your comment text to the reCAPTCHA verification service.

Hotel and search maps use OpenStreetMap. Loading map images shares connection information, such as your IP address and the origin of your visit, with the provider; see the OpenStreetMap policy. Google Maps only opens if you follow an external link to view a location or directions.

Weather comes from Open-Meteo and is requested by our server using a shared cache lasting several hours. We send the coordinates of a reference location without sharing the visitor’s IP address with the provider. Weather values are estimates and conditions may vary across a county or region. The weather block identifies the location and update time. Data by Open-Meteo, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

We use Google Analytics 4 only if you accept analytics. You can reject it and continue using the directory. You can change or withdraw your choice using “Configure cookies” in the footer. Before acceptance, or if you reject, we load no Analytics tags and send no measurement requests to Google.

Analytics helps us understand visits and improve the directory. It can record public pages visited, general referral source, language and technical browser information. We do not send names or comment text, and we exclude pages containing searches typed by visitors. We do not use personalised advertising features or Google Signals. Google receives requests from your browser; see its privacy policy.

Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Services we engage must use the applicable safeguards, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. You can request information about the providers and safeguards used in your case. We do not sell your personal data.

Retention and your rights

Approved comments are kept while published and relevant, unless removed or subject to a valid request. Pending and rejected comments are kept as needed for review and abuse prevention. Connection identifiers for new comments and ratings are cleared during maintenance once they are older than 30 days; submission counters expire within 24 hours. Technical logs and requests are retained according to their purpose and applicable periods, with restricted access. Backups may temporarily retain removed data until they are replaced.

You can request access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction or portability where applicable, and withdraw your consent. Email identifying the affected comment or information. We will request only the information needed to verify your request. You can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency or the competent authority where you live.

3. Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of data stored in your browser. We use the technical csrftoken cookie to protect comment and rating forms against forged submissions. Its default lifetime is one year, renewed when you use pages containing the form. We do not use WordPress account cookies or store your name or comment in a cookie.

The technical animalia_voter cookie contains a signed random identifier to prevent the same browser from rating a hotel repeatedly. It lasts one year, contains no names, emails or comment text, and is not used for analytics. Its protected identifier is retained with the vote while the rating remains published.

reCAPTCHA may use the security cookie _GRECAPTCHA and other signals to detect abuse. OpenStreetMap maps load images using the browser’s normal cache. External Google Maps links are governed by that service’s terms when you open them.

Our first-party animalia_consent cookie remembers your choice to accept or reject analytics for 180 days. It contains neither your name nor comment text. If you accept and Analytics loads, its _ga and _ga_* cookies identify visits for statistics, with a configured lifetime of 180 days that does not renew on every visit. On withdrawal, we disable Analytics and delete analytics cookies accessible from the site.

We use no advertising cookies. Rejecting analytics allows you to continue browsing the directory. Browsing, scrolling or agreeing to publish a comment does not constitute analytics consent. You can review your choice in “Configure cookies” when analytics is available.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser. Blocking technical protections may prevent comment submissions or maps from working.
